Personal Wellbeing during the COVID-19 Pandemic

During the COVID pandemic, YDWellbeing developed a new program that tracked each student’s wellbeing while at home. While the initial response to COVID is over, the program we built is still salient to schools in some contexts.

As students work online, many schools find it hard to keep track of their wellbeing. YDWellbeing solves this problem for schools. The program consists of students answering 11 questions about key wellbeing constructs each week.

After YDWellbeing analyse these data, students are categorised into one of three groups.

Conflating theory and results from data is complex. For ease of interpretation, the three groups are allocated according to the colours of a traffic light. Students are placed into either the red, amber or green group and results sent to their home-group teachers.

YDWellbeing provides expertise in the theory and measurement of wellbeing constructs. Therefore, YDWellbeing recommends that students presenting within an at-risk category for low levels of wellbeing are referred to the appropriate school personal who then are able, with data, to respond as they see fit. For example, one school organised a specialised group to consider appropriate responses to their wellbeing data. This group comprised the school Psychologist, the Principal, the Wellbeing Officer and other heads of staff to support students.
